Guinness is good for you!

Happy  St. Patrick’s Day everyone! Today, most of us will celebrate the man who drove the snakes from Ireland with what little amount of Irish heritage we have in us (or at least pretend that have some to celebrate, I’m actually an 1/8 thank you) with a pint of green beer or our favorite Irish brew. My favorite just happens to be arguably the most famous Irish beer, Guinness! I love this beer for 3 main reasons; the light and flavorful taste it has for being a stout, the long anticipatory pour and settling before consumption and the health benefits! A 2003 American Heart Association study found that drinking a pint of Guinness each day can reduce the risk of blood clots that cause heart attacks. Guinness is actually high in antioxidants called flavonoids (similar to those in fruits and veggies) will aid in the reduction of cholesterol and blood clotting cells and their “stickiness” as well as repairing the damage done to the lining of our arteries. After a similar study in the 1920’s (albeit less scientific than research done today) Guinness adopted the slogan “Guinness is good for you” up until they were told they should probably drop it decades ago. ( What?! That’s marketing gold! ) The brewers of Guinness don’t declare any health benefits from their beer but I sure as hell will!

Regardless of your reasons for celebration or festivities tonight, drink plenty of Guinness for a “healthy” drink and enjoy it responsibly. I plan on having 1/8 of and 8 pack…8 times!

Have a great St. Patrick’s day folks and an even better week!
